Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder (R) is taking legal action to challenge ballot language that seeks to determine whether or not the governor will be allowed to set up an online marketplace for patients to shop for health insurance policies.
The language was created by Sec. of State Robin Carnahan (D) and approved by the Republican-majority General Assembly.
The language currently reads “Shall Missouri law be amended to deny individuals, families, and small businesses the ability to access affordable health care plans through a state-based health benefit exchange unless authorized by statute, initiative or referendum or through an exchange operated by the federal government as required by the federal health care act?”
Kinder feels that the wording is neither fair nor accurate and is accusing Carnahan of abusing her office by writing the ballot with loaded language.
“The use of the active verb to deny individuals families and small businesses the ability to access affordable health care plans, that is loaded biased language on its face,” Kinder said.
