Obama touted the points of his healthcare bill Friday when he visited George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
The bill is especially pertinent to the college-aged crowd, who are now legally able to stay on their parents’ health insurance until they are 26 years old.
“I don’t think a college student should have to choose between textbooks and the preventive care she needs,” Obama said.

  2. There is no good exchange. But if we don’t do anything we’ll get a bad one from the feds.”

Michigan State Rep. Peter Lund, R-Shelby Township,

Michigan has to figure out how to begin implementing provisions of the Affordable Care Act, after postponing major action until last week’s Supreme Court decision. The state legislature is leaning toward a state insurance exchange program, rather than one run by the federal government. Friday was the deadline for Michigan to apply for this round of federal funds for the exchange program.  Michigan has received almost $1 million thus far to start the exchange.

  3. Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, visited Detroit last week as part of a tour to tout the Affordable Care Act, including an announcement that Michigan will receive $3.6 million in grant money to support three metro Detroit community health centers.

The pending Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act should not affect the grant, but that didn’t stop protesters of the law from appearing at the site of Sebelius’s announcement.

  6. The question of whether the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate is unconstitutional is at the heart of one Supreme Court case that could be decided this month, but Arizonans  weighed in almost two years ago.

The state approved the Health Care Freedom Act during the 2010 election by 55 percent. The proposition exempted Arizona residents from being forced to participate in any state or federal law that would require them to purchase health care.

Arizona Democrats continued to support the federal health care law, with nonprofit organization LUCHA accumulating more than 700 signatures on its petition to encourage the government to continue implementing the law.
