With race to replace Giffords approaching, ad by Democratic group stirs controversy
The election to fill Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ (D-Ariz.) House seat will take place June 12, and pits Jesse Kelly against Giffords’ former district director Ron Barber.
Giffords held on to her seat in 2010, when many of her Democratic colleagues lost their elections, narrowly beating Kelly, but resigned early this year to focus on recovering from a Tucson shooting in January 2011.
This ad by the House Majority PAC, an independent group supported by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to elect Democrats, quotes Kelly calling Giffords a “hero of nothing,” during the 2010 election and five months before Giffords was shot.
