Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney released an ad today in Virginia that focused on small businesses by telling the story of Bill’s BBQ, a recently closed local restaurant in Richmond, Va.
This isn’t Romney’s first hyper-local campaign effort in the state. In September, Romney distributed mailers about Lyme disease to residents in Northern Virginia.
With five days to go before the election, Romney is trying to hold on to his two-point lead over President Barack Obama in the state. Rasmussen Reports show that Romney is holding at 49 percent and Obama is at 47 percent.

Meanwhile, President Barack Obama is running a TV ad that plays off Romney’s comment to show him as dismissing Americans who work for their money, and according to a recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, a majority of Americans still view Romney’s comments unfavorably.

Both presidential candidates recently unveiled new campaign ads in state-specific to Wisconsin. The Marquette Tribune reports that these ads appear to be getting mixed reviews from voters.
Sen. Sherrod Brown’s (D) latest campaign ad went live in Ohio this. The new spot ties his opponent, Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel (R), to the widely unpopular payday lending industry.
An Olympic-themed ad criticizing Mitt Romney for his footprint in other countries will land in Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Virginia today, The Caucus Blog reports.
The ad comes from a Pro-Barack Obama super PAC, Priorities USA Action, and the jabs include his outsourcing jobs to China, offshore investments, and the 2002 Olympic uniforms.
The ad lands as Romney begins his trip to Europe this week, which includes attending the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
The latest from the Obama campaign this week is a 30-second spot calling Romney’s former company, Bain Capital, a pioneer in outsourcing jobs.
The contrast piece highlights Romney’s tax cuts for companies who ship jobs over seas, while playing up on Obama’s desire to keep jobs at home and give tax cuts to businesses who do the same. It also mentions Obama’s fight to save the automotive industry.
The ad will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
Former Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) launched two television ads targeting women and independents on Thursday, as his race with former Gov. Tim Kaine (D) heats up.
Allen’s ads follow one from President Obama that aired this week in Virginia, which also focused on women.
Earlier in May a poll conducted by the Washington Post showed Kaine held a seven-point lead among women voters. In another ABC News/Washington Post poll conducted in May, Obama also held a seven-point advantage with women over Romney.
Neither of the ads mention their opponents.
Less than a week after President Barack Obama’s comment that “the private sector is doing fine,” Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is up with a new TV ad using those words against him.
The 30-second spot, airing in Virginia and other key states, opens with a list of sobering economic statistics before replaying a clip of Obama’s statement three times.
