stabenow

  1. From the Detroit Free Press:

Hoekstra relentlessly kept his focus on Stabenow throughout the primary campaign, criticizing her for what he says is runaway spending in government. For months, it appeared Hoekstra would be the nominee, and Bill Ballenger, the publisher of Lansing-based Inside Michigan Politics, said Tuesday it was only a matter of how big a win he would have.

Former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra beat Republican challenger Clark Durant, 56-31 in the Michgian Republican Senate primary on Tuesday. Hoekstra now moves to the general election in November to face off with Democratic challenger and current U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

  2. "We sent multiple emails to over 42,000 FreedomWorks PAC members in Michigan, and the message came back loud and clear: they want Clark Durant to be their Senator,” FreedomWorks PAC Executive Director Max Pappas said in a statement.

    — A prominent conservative Washington, D.C., group endorsed Clark Durant over Peter Hoekstra on Tuesday prior to the Michigan Republican Senate primary election. U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., currently enjoys a 12-point lead over Hoekstra, who is seen as the front runner for the GOP ticket. Hokestra also on Tuesday accused Durant of violating campaign finance laws

  3. Call it an “oops” moment: A campaign ad condemned as racist towards Asians when it first appeared during the Super Bowl aired again on a Flint, Mich. CBS affiliate on Tuesday.

The spot, put out by GOP Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra, features an Asian woman bicycling past rice paddies and then thanking, in broken English, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) for borrowing so much money from China.

The station later apologized for re-airing the ad.

"WNEM accepts full responsibility for the incident which was a simple miscommunication. The order for a new round of advertising came in before the new ad did. Someone misinterpreted the order and began executing the new order with the old ad. We’ve spoken with the Hoekstra campaign and they understand it was a mistake."

Recent polling shows Stabenow with a +10 point lead on her contendor.

  4. — From the Detroit Free Press: “The campaign also reported it has locked in — and paid for — $3.2 million in television advertising time for the month leading up to the Nov. 6 general election …”
