voting fraud
-
State Rep. Roy Schmidt (R-Grand Rapids) and House Speaker James “Jase” Bolger (R-Marshall) attempted to insure Schmidt’s incumbent victory by finding a “fake” opponent to run in the 76th District. The “Democrat”, Matt Mojzak, had no intention of winning the election.
In Michigan, it is not a crime to pay placeholders to be on ballots. Schmidt and Bolger will not be charged; however, Mojzak could face criminal charges for falsely stating he lived in Kent County all his life.
Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Mark Brewer has asked Bolger to resign in light of this scandal.
Report: Schmidt, Bolger attempted 'fraud' in race for House seat, but did not break law
